Experiment

For my music video, I would like to have an animated title for the song 'Cake', that drips down like icing, as a connation for the song name 'cake'. This was my first experiment with practicing placing photos over videos and seeing if it would produce an animation, this was also a test to see how the fluid the movement would be.

For this experiment I made a rough outlines for each frame of animation using Photoshop, however when I make the real one for my music video, each frame will be much more detailed with shadows/highlight and such, with more frames for more fluid movement.

Practical research

Before hand I had experimented using the 70D Cannon camera to practice and experiment taking different shots sizes and angles of a record player, however I felt my footage from the experiment was unsuccessful, despite the location being well lit, the camera produced the footage much darker and less visible; the quality overall very poor. I decided I would retry to get footage of the record using different shots but with a camera 600D instead. Instantly, the 600D picked up the lighting much easier, and the footage was much clearer. Being more familiar with the 600D after using it before, it was much easier to zoom and focus, hence making my shots much clearer.

Mood board

For my Music video I would like to have a main character styled like a 1950's house wife; for this I have gathered and created a mood board to form my ideas and visual aspects I find interesting. From this mood board I know that most dresses or skirts are at knee length, and are shoulder length. Bold patterns such as stripes and polka dots seem to be most common.
This will help when it comes to designing the costume, knowing the skirt type, the patterns and the style of having a belt between the two.

Research

Using adobe premiere pro I experimented different shots for my baking sequence in my music video. Using tint, I experimented tinting each shot to the colour of pink; my choice of this colour is because pink is associated with cake and incising; also pink has conations linked to love, in which my music video explores this theme.

Practical research

For my music video I would like to have an animated title of the song 'Cake' dripping down like icing, this is my first experiment of attempting the animation, however I need to further test by trying to over lay a more detailed version of the animation on to physical footage.

Research for lighting and weather

Planned shooting: 26.11.2016

The clouldy weather blocks out over exposure, making It an ideal day to do shooting, the 26th falls on a Saturday, making more cast aviable for shooting and for longer time. Based on the timing of the sunrise and sunset: (sunrise 7.24 am/ sunset 3.56 pm) Shooting will begin at 8am and finish at 3.30pm, due to lighting. However equiptment will be set up at 7.40 am (giving 20 minuites to prepare before shooting). Shooting will be done at the kitchen location for the ‘1950’s house wife’ shots, due to rain at 8am and limited timing to move location later during the day due to ealy sunset.

Audience Questionnaire

Create your own user feedback survey
This is a questionnaire created to find out about the target audience of the singer Melanie Martinez, the singer of the song 'Cake', that I will be producing a music video for.

transition music video

Creating my transition music video was a major learning curve to me; after trying different ways to get my YouTube video up, all attempts failed with the same result- the sound to my music video being muted. This has shown me that I should have researched the song and tested the song on YouTube, before going straight into production.

During production; it soon came clear that we hadn’t pre-prepared enough, our preproduction work wasn’t detailed or in depth enough. Whilst recording, our actors were not sure what to do, which left them feeling uncomfortable in the shots. Much of our footage was ideas thought of at last minute, (we hadn’t thought about location or planned out a storyboard). This also made our post production longer because we had not planned the narrative. Thankfully, because are task involved lip-syncing, we could form some structure in our music video. Also during post-production I learned it’s crucial to take much more footage then you will need, due to cutting shots down.  We constantly found ourselves filling in pieces of the song with random footage.

However; despite many barriers, after hard work in post-production we assembled a music video together that flowed smoothly. I practiced with over laying clips, colour correction and time lapse. I learnt the trickery of making random clips sync to the song. what I have learnt from making this music video I will take making my proper one. I now know the importance of pre-production and have learn skills in post-production.
My main flaw when making my music video was the copy right issues, as I was unable to show sound.

Research and analysis on the music director Kenny McCracken
